Institute of Professional Floristry

ABOUT THE INSTITUTE OF PROFESSIONAL FLORISTRY
A global institute advancing floristry through research, standards, and professional development.
Mission Statement
To advance the profession of floristry through research, standards, education, and the development of professional resources.
The Institute of Professional Floristry exists to help florists grow beyond the demands of daily operations and into lasting professional influence.
We understand the realities of the profession—the long hours, the constant demands, the staffing challenges, and the responsibility of carrying a business that often depends too heavily on its owner.
Through research, standards, certifications, mentorship, symposiums, recognition programs, and industry resources, the Institute helps florists build stronger businesses, develop leadership skills, share their expertise, and create sustainable careers.
Our goal is not simply to support better floral work, but to cultivate respected professionals whose knowledge, systems, and contributions strengthen the future of floristry.
What We Are
The Institute of Professional Floristry is a research and professional development institution dedicated to the advancement of floristry as a discipline.
We study the industry in order to understand it.
We define standards in order to strengthen it.
We publish findings in order to guide it.
We convene professionals in order to elevate it.
We do not exist to sell floral products or services.
We exist to develop the profession itself.
What We Believe
Floristry is not only a craft. It is an intersection of design, hospitality, emotion, logistics, and leadership.
We believe:
-
Excellence should be defined, not assumed
-
Knowledge should be shared, not siloed
-
Professional standards should be documented, not implied
-
Growth should be supported by systems, not exhaustion
-
Creativity should be protected through structure, not pressure
-
The future of floristry must be shaped collectively, not individually
We believe florists deserve institutions that serve their profession at the highest level.
Our Approach: The Institute operates through five core functions:

Resources

Certifications

Symposiums

Research

Our Perspective on the Industry
The floristry profession is evolving. Automation is reshaping operational tasks. AI is changing administrative systems. Consumer expectations are becoming more experience-driven. As these shifts occur, the role of the florist is becoming more specialized—not less.
The Institute believes the future florist will be defined by:
-
Creative direction
-
Emotional intelligence
-
Client experience design
-
Cultural understanding
-
Business leadership
-
Artistic authorship
We exist to support that transition.

Our Origin
The Institute of Professional Floristry was founded in response to a growing need within the industry: a centralized body dedicated not to selling floral products, but to advancing the knowledge, systems, and standards that support those who create them.
Initial research is based upon operational and observational data gathered through professional floral practice, including insights from Earth Garden Flower Shop.
As the Institute expands, its research will incorporate contributions from florists, educators, and organizations across the industry.
2025 — The Foundational Question Emerges
The initial idea for the Institute of Professional Floristry began as a guiding question: how floristry could evolve beyond daily operations into a structured, respected, and research-driven profession.
2026 — The Vision Is Formed and Defined
Kaiana Lewis developed the question into a clear institutional vision: a professional body dedicated to floristry research, industry standards, certifications, symposiums, and long-term professional development.
Late 2026 — The Institute Is Founded
The Institute of Professional Floristry was formally established and founded, by Kaiana Lewis, as an organization focused on advancing the profession through research, standards, education, publications, and industry resources.
